Access to dental care is essential for overall health, yet for many Canadians, cost is a major barrier. That’s why the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), launched by the Government of Canada, is a game-changer—providing eligible individuals and families with coverage for essential dental services. At Uptown Oakville Dentistry, we’re here to help our community understand how to apply, renew, and make the most of this opportunity in 2025.
Starting this May, applications for the CDCP will be accepted in phases based on age group. If you’re between 55 and 64 years old, you can apply from May 1. Those aged 18 to 34 can apply beginning May 15, while applicants aged 35 to 54 will be able to submit their forms from May 29 onwards. This phased rollout helps ensure a smooth and organized application process for all Canadians. Eligible individuals will receive letters inviting them to apply, but even without a letter, you can apply online once your age group’s application period begins .
To apply, you must meet several eligibility requirements. You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes, not have access to private dental insurance, and have filed your 2023 income tax return. Additionally, your household income must be under $90,000. If your family income is below $70,000, you’ll be eligible for full coverage. Those with incomes between $70,000 and $89,999 may be required to pay a co-payment between 40% and 60% of treatment costs.
